The new millennium was the start of a monumental change to the landscape of downtown/uptown Dallas. Population in the central business district grew form 1,654 in 2000 to over 10,000 at the end of 2009. At the same time uptown had a population of about 6,000 and today has over 19,000. There have been sixteen buildings that have over 15-stories that have been completed or reopened. Additionally there have been dozens upon dozens built with less height, including places such as the West Village which is only four stories but includes residences, restaurants, a movie theater and more. The American Airlines Center which is home to the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars opened in 2001 and Victory Park soon followed. The world renowned Nasher Sculpture Center opened along with the Winspear Opera House and Wyly Theater.
The famous Mercantile Building in the heart of downtown was restored and reopened. Projects under construction include the Calatrava Bridge, the Woodall Rogers Deck Park and the Convention Center Hotel. While not in downtown Dallas it is hard not to mention the $1.2 billion Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
The following are some examples of an amazing transformation with more on the way in the next decade.
